Robert Smith of The Cure really has a heart, and at the right place so it seems now. Smith will be auctioning a new re-mastered fully autographed double vinyl set of "Disintegration" to raise money for the defense fund of Damien Echols (who is on death row), Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley, Jr.— also known as the 'West Memphis Three'. The 3 were convicted for murdering 3 elementary school children back in 1994. However, since the horrific crimes took place, DNA from the crime scene and victims has been tested and none, yes that's right none, of it matches these 3 apparently unjustly imprisoned men.
The 'proof' from the Police was rather dodgey. For instance they 'obtained' an error-filled confession from Jessie Misskelley Jr., who is mentally handicapped. The prosecution also resorted to presenting black hair (which has nothing to do with the case so DNA has proven now) and clothing, heavy metal t-shirts, and Stephen King novels as proof that the boys were sacrificed in a satanic cult ritual... Yep, the US judicial system at its very best. Result of the circus: Echols was sentenced to death, Baldwin received life without parole, and Misskelley got life plus 40.
